The program of the 10th Festival is twofold: productions by foreign companies and the program of Moscow theatres.

The year of 2011 will be the Year of Italy and the Year of Spain in Russia. The CITF program features two productions from Italy and four from Spain. The Italian theatre is represented by Emma Dante, bringing the production of The Spectacles Trilogy, and Piccolo Teatro di Milano with Arlecchino – Servant of Two Masters.

The theatre of Spain will be represented by four companies. The National Dance Theatre of Madrid will show two programs of one-act ballets, including three dance pieces choreographed by Nacho Duato and ballets by choreographers Alexander Ekman and Phillippe Blanchard. The Self-Portrait will enable the audiences to meet Maria Pagés – the creator and performer of her own version of the flamenco dance style. “The Comedians” company from Barcelona will show its new production of Persephone conceived and directed by Juan Font.

The production of Samuel Beckett’s First Love is the joint project of the Greek Festival of Barcelona, Bitó Productions, the CINTF, Velvet Events and Grostel Productions. This production is conceived and performed by Pere Arquillué who has already appeared before the Moscow audiences as Platonov in Chekhov’s like-named play. The directors are Alex Ollé and Miquel Górriz.

The program of the 10th Festival features the stagings of such well-known and much loved in Russia grand masters of the world theatre as Philippe Genty and Mathurin Bolze of France, Sylvie Guillem, Robert Lepage, Russell Maliphant and Matthew Bourne of Britain, Romeo Castellucci of Italy. The Moscow audiences will see three one-act ballets choreographed by the classic of the American modern dance Merce Cunningham and dating from three different periods of his artistic career. The sets for the production of The Rainforest, also included in the CITF program, were designed by Andy Warhol. One of America’s most innovative and popular choreographers and unchallenged leader of “Momix Dance Company” Moses Pendleton will present his latest production of Botanica.

The 10th Festival will open with Declan Donnellan’s Russian-cast production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. This is a joint production of Chekhov International Theatre Festival, Theatre Les Gemeaux (Paris, Sceaux) in association with Cheek by Jowl (London, Great Britain)

The Moscow theatres will be represented at the Festival by the more interesting productions having been premiered over the past two seasons.
